Collection: Vayijel [Guardian Animal]

It means guardian animal spirit in Tsotstil, a language spoken mainly in the Highlands of Chiapas, the region where this collection was created.

The Vayijel are beings of great power, guardians of all communities. They are capable of transforming into animals and beings of light to travel to the four cardinal points and prevent the evils that threaten each place.

During the K'in Tajimoltil [Game Festival] festivities held every February in San Pedro Chenalhó, men represent the vayijel with circles painted all over their bodies as part of the celebration, so for this collection we reinterpreted these elements with circles of different sizes made in raised embroidery on different garments.

On the other hand, these beings are represented through snakes embroidered on traditional clothing, so for this collection they were reinterpreted with similar forms in different embroideries, made by artisans from the same municipality.

Along with hand-pleating techniques, we seek to play with volume, emphasizing these magical beings, representing movement and transformation.

In this collection, we use some unique and discontinued fabrics, limiting their production and having a lower environmental impact.

This collection was made in collaboration with artisans from the Talonhuitz, San Andrés Larráinzar, Flor de Margarita groups in Chenalhó and Amatenango del Valle in Chiapas, and in Tixmehuac in Yucatán.
